Ballhaus ‘Importing in Motion’ is a company inspired by people, curiosity, love of travel and design.
BALLHAUS was based on the idea of creating a company that thrived on travel and experiences, opening up the world to sourcing unique pieces to share back home in Australia.
Mexico has been a 6 year adventure, from developing property along the Caribbean coast, to developing new friendships and meeting incredible people along the way.
During my time in Mexico, the love of mezcal and tequila matured into a greater understanding of the traditions and artisans behind the growing and cultivating of agave – creating truly unique herbal profiles from the regions and soils of where they are grown.
ESPIRITU LAURO MEZCAL and SEVERO TEQUILA are two truly unique collections that BALLHAUS imports to Australia….. to be enjoyed sipping on a quiet stretch of beach in Mexico or with friends wherever you may be.

FOR THE LOVE OF AGAVE, TRADITIONS AND THE ARTISANS BEHIND IT.
In 2010 Espíritu Lauro was created in honour of the founder and Carino’s grandfather, Don Lauro Martínez, who developed the original formula that is produced in this Palenque since the 1920s.
Here, they created a hot temperature ensemble of agave espadín with San Martín. A Karwinskii that made a much more complex kind of mezcal than others. This perfect mix of agave with espadín now is named Espíritu Lauro.
Their Palenque is like no other. The geo-graphic region where it is located, is far from the zone where the machine made mezcales are produced. The processes are based on tradition. The flavour is created in San Agustín Amatengo, a small town with a population of less than 1,500 people with a strong mezcal tradition. Located in the mountains, the process is natural and careful, far from the quick and antinatural formulas.
All of this has positioned Espíritu Lauro as the favourite mezcal among the lovers of this drink.
